TN Trip

We are home from TN and already missing everyone. We had such a great time and Skylar was a trooper the entire trip. She did well flying and adjusted pretty well to sleeping in different places. She has become such a chill baby and is most happy just laying on the floor with some toys to look at or some people to talk to.

I love this little outfit with the jean skirt and pink boots. We wore her out taking pictures.

Skylar and Great Uncle Lee and Uncle Ryan

Chillin in the swing

I love my Aunt Jenny

No high chair? Just improvise with a tub. I think she was thoroughly confused.

Still hasn't mastered cereal with a spoon. (Maybe because it tastes nasty)

KT and Ed came over for my birthday dinner

I had a great birthday and thanks to everyone for the sweet birthday wishes. While I was in Memphis I caught some sort of stomach bug and was so sick. Luckily it was the day after my birthday so I still got to enjoy it, but I spent 2 1/2 days of my trip at home sick. I had lots of visiting/shopping/eating at good restaurants that I had wanted to do but it was probably a good thing that I was there instead of home and had help with Skylar. I can't imagine having been at home by myself and trying to take care of her and trying not to get her sick. I was reminded again at how hard it would be to be a single parent and how lucky I am to have lots of support.

I finally recovered the day we headed to Knoxville which was great so I could hold my adorable niece Caroline. Knoxville was beautiful and I had so much fun hanging out and playing with Caroline. She is only 3 months older than Skylar and is already starting to crawl and pull up and trying to talk. I took lots of pictures and then got home and realized that none of them were on my SD card. I have no idea what happened between Memphis and Knoxville to my camera, but for some reason it stopped saving pictures. One of my sis-n-law Minde's friends is a photographer on the side and came over to take pictures of the girls. I don't have the CD yet, but I have seen some of them and she did a fabulous job. I am so thankful to have these pictures! I will post some when I get them.

5 months old

Skylar is 5 months old today. She has gotten more personality even within the last week. Her sweet little talking voice has gotten louder and turned into fun squeals. She loves to blow bubbles and make "razz" noises and thinks it is very funny if you do these back at her. She can hold on to toys if you put them in her hand but still isn't really grabbing for them yet. Her favorite toys of the moment are these little Sassy brand square, circle, and triangle toys that have smiley faces.

Great Weekend

It has been a long time since Ty had off for a weekend that we didn't have company or were traveling. We had a great weekend relaxing, playing with Skylar, enjoying the awesome weather, taking naps, watching movies, taking turns driving the Jeep around, watching SNL, and we even went to the county fair. I grew up going to the Mid South Fair which could keep you entertained and busy for a whole day. The Pitt County Fair...not so much. It was such a beautiful day we thought we would go check it out though. I have to give them credit that they did the best they could and the kids seemed to be having a good time which is all that mattered. We had seen the whole fair in about an hour but stuck around for some funnel cake. Yummy! We couldn't find our little camera before we left and I didn't want to carry the big one so we don't have any pics. Skylar did great though and took a catnap as we were walking around.

I am getting so big!

Travels

I am so excited to be making a trip to TN next month! Skylar and I will be "touring" Memphis Oct 16-21 and Knoxville Oct 21-24 if anyone happens to be in town any of those times- I would love to hook up. I will be flying solo with Skylar and would greatly appreciate any tips or advice for smooth travels.

Nights in Rodanthe

I am excited about this movie coming out tomorrow. I really liked the book and hope the movie does not disappoint. Rodanthe was a couple miles down the road from where we stayed in the Outer Banks and we got to see the house where the movie was filmed. It is such a beautiful area.

Rough Night

We decided that it was time to try and wean Skylar from being swaddled at night. We started last night because Tyler was off and could help. It did not go well at all and none of us got much sleep because Skylar was up about every hour. Her arms were just waving all around. She managed to scratch her face up pretty good which I feel terrible about because we are bad about keeping her nails short.
O well, we will try again tonight!

We did manage to all catch a nap this morning and then get up in time to catch the ECU game. So close Pirates!

Playtime with Daddy

Skylar had her 4 month shots this week and was a little out of whack. The only thing that would really make her happy was laying on her back on the floor with one of us sitting or laying beside her talking to her. Needless to say I did not get much done this week, but it was kindof nice just to have some one on one time. Here she is talking to Daddy.

Outer Banks

We had a great week at the beach last week. It was so fun to get to see my family and for Tyler to be off of work for a week. Skylar did great and was thrilled to have constant entertainment from aunts and uncles and grandparents. We made it through Tropical Storm Hanna and really didn't have too bad of weather all week. On the way there though the road was flooded and we had to drive through a couple miles of water on the road that got to 18 inches deep. They were only letting SUVs go so we were very lucky to make it through. Cars had to wait another 3-4 hours for the tide to go down.
We also had another fun driving experience on the last night. We were headed to dinner and we decided to drive on the beach for a bit. (Vehicles are allowed on the beach there and lots of people drive out there to fish) We started driving and were all having fun and watching the waves and then we realized we werent seeing any more cars anywhere and thought we werent going to find another road access exit. I thought we were going to have to turn around and go all the way back. We were sliding around on the sand and sometimes would have to get pretty close to the water to avoid hitting a dune. I love off roading, but I was even a little nervous with Skylar in the car. We eventually found an exit though and got back on the road and headed to dinner.
I was a little dissapointed that Skylar didnt get to wear her cute bathing suits and play in the water, but it was really too cold for her. She did love her walks on the beach in her baby bjorn.

Beach Bound

Despite Tropical Storm Hanna, we are headed to the Outer Banks tomorrow for a week! It looks like it is going to rain almost everyday which is a bummer cause we have been planning this trip for 6 months, but at least Tyler will be off of work and we will get to see family. I have been packing all week and can not believe how much stuff we have to take. This shot is just some of the things we are taking a doesn't include anything that Skylar still needs until tomorrow....bouncy seat, bath tub, bottles.... It is her first night away from home so hopefully we remember everything.
