Shimmer and Shine were super excited for Halloween! We had much better weather this year and Gigi and Granddude got to come trick or treat with us again too. We made a big loop in the neighborhood and then came home to check out all the treats. The White family stopped by to visit too and all the girls were running around and squealing in their costumes :)
October 2015
We had another busy, fun October! There are always so many school and Fall activities all month that it gets a little crazy sometimes, but the girls love it! :)
Savannah's name got drawn to be the third "Marvelous Monkey" of the week! She was SO excited!! As part of being the marvelous monkey, she got to bring Marvin the monkey home for the weekend. She had to write a journal entry about all the fun things Marvin got to do with our family. She also got to make a poster to share with the class and bring a treat for her classmates.
Marvin started right away by going to Speech therapy with us that afternoon.

Time to present her poster!
After school that day we decided to go to the park with the Sarah and the girls. The girls were both happy and had good days, and I would have never anticipated that the night would end with Skylar having a concussion! It was a pretty scary chain of events, even more so because of Skylar's other neurological issues.
All the girls were running around and playing and Skylar seemed just fine. Then one time she walked up to Sarah and I and sortof said some gibberish. Sarah thought she was being funny and I didn't really think anything of it because she makes lots of crazy noises all the time. In hindsight it is clear that she was slurring her words, but at the time and with all the activity going on around us, I didn't give it a second thought. A few minutes later she started looking a little pale in the swing and I thought she had gotten a little motion sick so I got her out. A little later before we left, we tried to take a picture of all the girls. I still wasn't thinking anything was wrong, but it is clear in the pictures how sick she felt. Her face got white as a ghost! When we started walking to leave she mumbled something but I heard the words "throw up", and she almost fell down. I yelled to Sarah and she saw Skylar's face and couldn't believe it. I rushed her home, luckily just across the street. I was looking on the internet for possible ideas of what was going on and concussion kept popping up. I replayed our whole trip to the park over and over and could never remember Skylar hitting her head on anything or even saying ouch or whining. And I had just picked her up from school and she looked completely fine and was acting completely fine? I couldn't figure out how she had possibly gotten hurt enough to be showing signs of a concussion!? Later, when she was in the bath and her hair got wet, I finally saw a big goose egg right at her hairline that had been covered up. Poor thing had knocked her head really hard on something! I read and learned more about concussions than I ever wanted to that night. I texted with her teacher and after she did some digging, she did find out finally that Skylar had hit her head on the playground bridge at recess. She was trying to walk under it and came up too soon. She said that the aide with her said that she said owww, but didn't cry or make any other fuss about it, so they just assumed she was fine too. I called the pediatrician and the neurologist and we checked on her all night. The next day she stayed home and I tried to keep her as calm as possible so she could recover. After all of that, she was fine! I am not easily worried anymore, but she had me pretty worried. I just can't imagine what she had been feeling like and couldn't tell us, or how much that accident had hurt. I am really thankful for her happy spirit though and that she recovered so well! Just a few extra gray hairs on our part :)
She recovered just in time for the school Boosterthon Fun Run! Savannah had been obsessed with all the pledge prizes and fun spirit days they got to have during the week. Kindergarten got to have crazy hair day on the same day as the fun run. They both had so much fun running their laps! It was really hot for October, but Sky hung in there pretty well and the volunteers were good about making sure everyone took some water breaks and some walking laps...
Sky's class coming out of the tunnel...

Savannah's class was part of the next fun run and Gigi and Granddude came out to see her run too...

We came home from the beach a day early because there were so many fun Fall activities at home that we didn't want the girls to miss. We started Saturday morning with a birthday party at the park for a friend from soccer, Andrew...
Then headed to the Fall Family Fun Fest at church...
