Busch Gardens

We took the girls on their first amusement park trip to Busch Gardens! We thought it would be a great practice run for our Make a Wish trip to Disney World this fall. I don't remember if I have officially announced it on the blog yet, but Skylar got approved for a Make a Wish a few months ago and got granted a Wish trip to Disney. Our trip gets scheduled in July, but will be sometime this fall. We are so appreciative and excited!!
The girls had a blast at Busch Gardens, but I'm glad we have six more months for them to be a little older and a little more ready for a big Disney trip. They could not have kept up that pace for a whole week! Busch Gardens is home to Elmo and all the Sesame Street friends and we spent a lot of the day in Sesame Streets Forest of Fun. They got to ride a lot of kiddie rides. A couple of the rides made me nervous to see them on by themselves, but they loved it! Savannah is definitely going to be an adrenalin junky like her dad. She loved this one ride that was a big pirate ship that swung back and forth and side to side- it went fast enough to get your hair blowing pretty good- and she had a huge grin on her face the whole time. She also ended every ride with "I need to do Aaggaiin!"

Visiting Elmo and Friends. Sky was not so sure about Big Bird, but she Loved Bert and Ernie

I love their tiny legs barely hanging off...

Fun train ride all through the park...

Carousel

Little Flyers

Swings- they could have stayed here all day...

Hot air balloons
Mini Tradewinds ride
They each got to pick a souvenir before we left. Savannah chose Zoe and Sky chose Bert- of course! She loves all the tall skinny guys- Prince Charming, Ken, Woody, and now Bert. She's so funny...
Worn out!

Special Olympics Little Feet Meet

Skylar got to participate in the Special Olympics Little Feet meet this year. It was such a fun and special event and she had a blast! There were over 400 little athletes participating in different events.

Here she is listening intently to the Opening Ceremonies and the Star Spangled Banner. I loved the quote that was read during the opening ceremonies- "There are not people with disabilities...only people with different abilities. There are not people with weaknesses....only people with different strengths." One of the goals of Special Olympics is for athletes and individuals of all abilities to be included and be embraced regardless of their differences. The Meet was held at a large high school and there were tons of high school students volunteering- and it was so cool to see all of them supporting the athletes and making sure everyone was included. So important for them to be exposed to all different types of people!
This is Abby, Skylar's Special Buddy in 4th grade that got to help her with all her events. She was so sweet- she is what you want your 10 year old daughter to be like!

Skylar bowling...
Obstacle course...

Weight lifting! She was so good she thought she would just do it one handed :) She also got to do events in soccer, baseball, and hockey.
