Mimi visit and Sky's surgery

We had one last Christmas celebration with Mimi and Max! Mimi came for a Christmas visit and to help after Skylar's surgery. The girls were excited to have them visit!

We were also celebrating the end of Christmas season at Target! :)
Savannah playing her new game, with some crazy scorekeeping ;) ...
After a fun Christmas night with Mimi, we had to get ready for Skylar's surgery the next morning. Skylar's doctors had been monitoring her sleep for years, and finally decided it was time to have her tonsils and adenoids out to try and improve her sleep apnea. We were not looking forward to it, but wanted to do the best thing for her. I tried to get stocked up on all sorts of softs foods that she might like after surgery :)

We left for the hospital the next morning at 4:45!
Lots of reading, playing, and waiting...
She got to pick a toy from the hospital toy cabinet...
Love this sweet face!

Of course Woody is keeping us company too :) We were supposed to be in surgery pretty early, but there was an issue with her bloodwork so they had to do it again. And we got bumped and had to wait a while.
Riding down the hall to the OR.
Surgery went well and the doctor said she had some giant tonsils and that she would be much better off without them. We were so thankful it went well! Her recovery did not go as well, and we had a pretty rough day. She has such a hard time coming off of anesthesia and it is just pitiful! We've been in quite a few recovery rooms over the years, and Skylar is by far the hardest patient in the room. I hate it for her! This one was probably even worse because she was screaming on a throat that had just had surgery on it, and I know that had to feel just awful. But we eventually got to move to a room and that helped her get settled. Once she is out of anesthesia, she is really such a sweet, happy patient. It takes her longer to recover, but once she recovers, I think she probably recovers better and happier than alot of kids. And for that I am so thankful! The rest of the day we were trying to keep her comfortable and manage her nausea. Poor thing threw up all day, and then finally got some good drugs that helped her feel better.
She got to open some Get Well presents from sweet family!

And she got to FaceTime Savannah! That smile! :)
Around 10:00, the doctors made their last rounds and checked on her again. She was doing much better and was just finally exhausted after no sleep all day.
We had IVs beeping and nurses in and out all night and I probably only got a few minutes of sleep, but Sky was doing her best to rest and I was glad we were at the hospital being monitored. I sat in the bed with her for most of the night and had some sweet middle of the night talks and snuggles.  Love this girl!
Up and at em the next day and ready for a breakfast of popsicles, jello, and beef broth!? Ha.
Later we had a visit from Mimi, Gigi, and Savannah. Mimi and Savannah had been having lots of fun playing at home, making potholders, and going to one of Savannah's favorite restaurants, Lenny's. Sky was happy to see everyone and to get up and move around for a bit.

We finally got to go home around dinner time and we were all SO happy and thankful to be home!
Sky did amazing her first night home! We tried to keep her pain meds going around the clock, but I am sure it was mostly her nighttime meds that helped her get some good rest!
The next morning we got up and Savannah had a fever and was acting kindof pitiful, so I took her to the doctor and she had Strep! Aahh!! So, we got some meds and hunkered down at home in recovery mode for literally the rest of the year. :)

Celebratory champagne on NYE! Not exactly how we would have envisioned the year ending, but super thankful and grateful for a good year nonetheless!

Happy New Year's Eve!
